ACCURX ONLINE APPOINTMENTS

ACCURX ONLINE APPOINTMENTS

On October 1st 2022 Oakwood Surgery will proudly launch an online patient booking system. The benefits of this online system are simple.

Firstly, it will mean that you will no longer have to arrive first thing in the morning to join a queue hoping to get any remaining appointment slots.

Secondly, the online system is flexible and gives you access to available appointments for each working day.

This online book system, like the phone, will be open from 8am to 9 am. We will provide you with your login details to access our system securely; once you login, you will complete a short query form and you are all done. Your doctor will look over your query and call you to discuss your medical needs.

In the meantime, if you have any additional questions please visit our website or call the surgery.

referrals from NHS 111 for both minor illness and urgent repeat medication requests,
although the GP referral pathway is exclusively for minor illness presentations.

You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a ‘Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work – ’Fit Note’

The ‘fit note’ was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer’s support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

For more information see the DirectGov website (where this information was sourced)

COVID: Telephone Appointment System

Due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) the Practice is no longer offering walk-in appointments and patients are actively encouraged not to attend the surgery in-person to book an appointment. In fact, since March 2020 patients have been encouraged to phone the surgery to make an appointment. We have multiple lines in use to answer all calls and the lines are open from 8:00am – 1:00pm and 3:00pm – 6.30 pm Monday to Friday. The phone lines use a ‘queuing system’ to hold up to 20 calls in the queue at any given time and any individual call is kept in the queue for a maximum of 60 minutes.

Given the current situation with coronavirus, the Reception Team will need to follow strict protocol in booking appointments by asking a series of questions before they can book an appointment.

With the new protocols, there is unprecedented pressure on the phone system to book an appointment or access other services. Even though the system has been in place since March 2020 it was never designed for this volume of calls, the Reception Team is doing its level best to cope with the extreme demands on the services. However, whilst the Team endeavours to answer all the calls as they move up the queue, some patients get frustrated with the waiting time and abandon the call. It is also often the case that when a patient does get through to a member of the Reception Team, they are not trying to make an appointment but rather trying to access other services (Rx request, secretarial queries such as blood test results etc.). It is for this reason that we would like to remind patients that they should call after 10am to access these services to enable the Reception Team to keep the lines open for appointments and triage.

We would also like to remind patients that there is a separate dedicated line for repeat prescription requests and that for secretarial queries they should in future press Option 5 to take the pressure off the appointment booking system.
